Sandvik Coromant to Sponsor & Present at “The Key to Digital Manufacturing” Conference at the Smart Manufacturing Experience

Bijal Patel and Richard Boyle of Sandvik Coromant will show how shops can increase efficiencies and reduce waste through digital machining.

Fair Lawn, NJ – Bijal Patel, Senior Digital Machining Specialist and Richard Boyle, Production Unit Manager, of Sandvik Coromant will present at “The Key to Digital Manufacturing” conference at the Smart Manufacturing Experience (SME) at the Boston Convention Center on May 2, 2018 at 9:45 am. The Smart Manufacturing Experience takes place on April 30 to May 2, 2018 and focuses on how leading companies are using transformative technologies to advance manufacturing.

Bijal Patel will explain the future of manufacturing through cyber-physical systems and show how digitalization can increase efficiencies and reduce waste by connecting the entire value stream. From CAM programming, centralized tool libraries and integrated machining simulation to process monitoring and control to machine, utilization and tool usage monitoring, Mr. Patel will reveal how the digital thread connects all stages of the machining process from design to outbound logistics.

Per Mr. Patel, “We are happy to be presenting at the Smart Manufacturing Experience and to demystify digital machining. We will talk about the benefits of using a connected platform throughout the design, process and operations planning, production logistics, machining, verification and outbound logistics stages.” He adds, “But we won’t just talk about the high-level concepts of digital machining. We will also show the real-time application of those concepts.”

As Manager of the Sandvik Coromant Production Unit in Mebane, NC, Richard Boyle knows firsthand the benefits and rewards of a connected shop. He will show attendees how he uses the CoroPlus® digital platform with a fully integrated tool library which offers readily accessible tool configurations to help the prevention of redundant data. He will also explain how CoroPlus® provides digital machining insights such as machine utilization, tool assembly usage and provides reasons for utilization loss. And finally, Mr. Boyle will identify how CoroPlus improves his unit’s performance through real time data which is used to set expectations, identify bottlenecks and improve communication.

Bijal Patel brings a diverse background to his role as a Senior Digital Machining Specialist drawing from his mechanical engineering and marketing experience. He is currently responsible for strategic business planning and development for Sandvik Coromant’s digital machining product portfolio.

With over 24 years of experience in the metal cutting industry, Richard Boyle’s extensive knowledge of electro-mechanics coupled with his expertise in computer networks and full stack web development puts him in a unique position to drive Industry 4.0 technologies for the metal cutting industry.
