Scotchman Announces Golden Anniversary

“Paying it forward in tons–50-tons”

PHILIP, SD — Firmly rooted in tradition with an eye on the future, Scotchman Industries, Inc., is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.  It’s been half a century since Scotchman debuted its hydraulic-powered ironworker and we are honored to have served the manufacturing industry in America and abroad over the years. Although five decades have passed since Arthur A. Kroetch founded the company, Scotchman has remained committed to building high-quality dependable products, providing first-class customer service, and believing in the strength of American manufacturing.

Take a video tour of the factory:

Founded in 1967, Scotchman introduced its industry revolutionizing product, the 35-ton hydraulic-powered ironworker, with only six employees. Today, employing almost eighty people, Scotchman manufactures fourteen different models of ironworkers, ranging from 45-tons to 150-tons in three distinctive styles; as well as a complete line of circular cold saws.

Art left his company in great hands with his son, Jerry. Jerry has been President of Scotchman Industries for 16 years and worked in the company for almost 40 years. Jerry is one of a handful of family members involved in Scotchman.

“Currently my brother, brother-in-law, my wife, daughter and son are also part of the business. My dad did an exceptional job laying out what he wanted and we have tried to follow that blueprint,” Jerry points out.

“We are proud to say that our world-famous ironworkers are still made in small town Philip, South Dakota, USA.” says President and CEO Jerry Kroetch. “Our company was founded on the principle of providing well-built machinery to help our customers find efficient solutions for their shop needs. Nothing has changed. We take pride in manufacturing quality USA made metal fabricating machines that can be passed down from generation to generation.”

From the beginning, Scotchman Ind. has maintained a reputation of high quality American craftsmanship. Kroetch went on to say, “That could not have been achieved without the support and dedication of our excellent team. Every person here plays a very important role in the development of our company. Scotchman Industries, Inc. shall ever remain indebted to the contributions of its employees. Good employees are the foundation of great companies.”
President Jerry Kroetch often quotes the words of his father in saying, “You know I’m (Art) not a very smart man, but I was smart enough to hire the right people to do the job.”

“I don’t think he gave himself enough credit for how smart he was,” Jerry says.

“We strive to provide good jobs for the area. We have been blessed with many good, hardworking people from the heart of God’s country who also believe in quality products and a hard day’s work. It is a great feeling knowing that we are doing our part in keeping manufacturing jobs in America!” says President Jerry Kroetch.

Scotchman Industries takes pride in treating their employees like family. They know without excellent employees they would not be able to produce quality products or have the outstanding customer service, which they are known for worldwide.

Kroetch stated he is proud to cross another milestone in the history of the company and is extremely grateful for the customers who trusted Scotchman as their metal-fab solution for the past 50 years. “Our success story remains incomplete without the support of our customers. Not only have they made us a part of their lives, but also helped Scotchman reach out to the world. Our customers spread the word faster and in a better way than any of our promotional materials could. We cannot thank them enough.”

“Whether you are a current or potential Scotchman customer, you can call our support team. Our knowledgeable, friendly staff is available to answer any question or help you find the right product for your needs. Every time you call us (during business hours), an actual person will answer the phone! We have over 130 years of knowledge, experience and expertise on our seven-person customer service team at our customers’ disposal,” says Kroetch proudly.

On this golden anniversary, Scotchman Industries is announcing its 50-ton giveaway! Together, with our valued customers, we want to pay it forward and inspire the next generation by gifting a NEW 50514-EC ironworker to a school shop class. Scotchman is a big supporter of shop class education, and wants to see America’s youth grow up and embrace a fulfilling and productive career in the manufacturing and metal fabrication field. This is why our sweepstake giveaway puts a powerful emphasis on schools. Our sweepstake winner will receive a $1,000 Scotchman tooling credit and the power to decide which lucky school will receive a NEW 50-ton ironworker!

Scotchman is looking forward to many more years of serving the metal fabrication industry with a continued commitment to the future of American Manufacturing. We pledge to provide the same best-in-class quality and service that we’ve been providing since the beginning.

Come tour the factory during their 50th anniversary open-house on September 27th, or see live machine demonstrations at FABTECH 2017, booth#A4217.
